The Visa Developer team wrapped up an awesome weekend during the last weekend of November, supporting developers at HackYeah, the largest European Hackathon held in Warsaw Poland. Over 2,100 developers crowded the Global Expo in Warsaw to solve over 20 challenge statements and only had 24 hours to hack!

This was an event not to miss, not to mention the special guest was Mateusz Morawiecki – Polish Prime Minister.

Visa was one of two strategic partners of the event and presented developers with two challenges:

  1. Payments in the world of Internet of Things - Imagine the future intelligent and connected world and design solution that will unlock new commerce opportunities.
  2. Commerce Experiences of Tomorrow – Design the new quality and new value propositions around the commerce experience of the future. Embed the seamless, secure payments into your solutions powered by Visa APIs.

30 teams took on these challenges and with the support of Visa mentors two teams came out on top, each were awarded 3500 Euro each.

Team Beocoin - Winner of Payments in the World of Internet of Things Challenge

The team used IoT transmitters and Visa APIs to create merchant affinity and offer cardholders frictionless payment experiences in split payments. The Visa APIs they used with Visa Token Service, Payment Account Validation, Payment Account Attributes Inquiry and Visa Direct.

In true hackathon fashion, Visa set up a booth so developers can take a break from hacking. They were invited to relax in 9D Virtual Reality simulator or get some exercise and take part in some of the sport contests such as cycling or foosball.

The special entertainment zone was open around the clock and it allowed developers to regain forces for further programming challenges.

Thank you to all developers who joined us! Stay tuned for more from our winners as in an upcoming Q&A with the winning teams!
