Does systemsTraceAuditNumber need to be unique for a certain period i.e. 24 hours, etc?

In MerchantPushPayments POST API, I am aware that systemsTraceAuditNumber is the key data element used to match a response to its request or to match a message to others for a given transaction, and the value should be unique for each API invocation. However, I'm wondering if it needs to be unique for a certain period of time i.e. 24 hours, etc?
