We're proud to announce the winners of the Small Business Week Hackathon! Visa and the Small Business Administration (SBA) hosted the 2nd annual #SmallBusinessWeek Hackathon May 3-5, as part of the National Small Business Week. Out of 107 attendees and 27 submissions, these teams came out on top. Congrats to all!
Grand Prize Winner: Snapshot - $25,000
- Snapshot is an app intended to help small business inventory and itemize damages to ease the process of seeking the insurance claim. Bookkeeping APIs to help catalog assets before a disaster, then AI-based damage detection software to assesses the value of damages using mobile photos.
Visa API Winner and 2nd Place Overall - Disaster Recovery Score - $5,000 & $15,000
- When a disaster happens, the last thing small business owners want to worry about are forms for loans and claims. This year’s Visa API winner developed Disaster Recovery Score, an app used to consolidate the forms & resources and also helps small businesses prepare for when disaster strikes.
3rd Place Overall - Team Route7 - BOLT( Business Operational Logistics Transcript) - $10,000
- An Alexa app using visual recognition software and Alexa voice assistance to innovate inventory processes both before and after disaster hits.
Authroize.net Challenge Winner - SBAssist - $5,000
- An online crowdfunding program that maps merchants affected by federally and state declared disasters, giving users the ability to contribute to those businesses directly and receive social badges to gamify and create a community around supporting recovering Small Businesses.
Developers for Disaster Relief
This time, we worked to enable solutions and apps that help America’s small businesses prepare and/or recover from major natural disasters such as hurricanes, flooding, wildfires, tornados, snowstorms or earthquakes.
The Challenge
Small businesses face a wide variety of challenges as they recover from natural disasters including:
- Restoring their revenue stream
- Gaining access to funds for both short term and long term recovery
- Paying employees
- Finding suppliers still in operation
- Dealing with Disruption to Communications & Service such as Electricity
Developers developed concepts that would help business owners prepare and/or recover from major natural disasters such as hurricanes, flooding, wildfires, tornados, snow storms or earthquakes. Making use of API's from Visa, the U.S. Government, and third parties to build an impactful new tool.
