Create a token via Visa Token Service and store it in the NFC chip for payments at POT terminals.

Hello,

I would like to find out whether the Visa Token Service can be used to obtain a token that could be inserted into an NFC chip (Ntag213, 13.56MHz) and inserted into a smart ring.

The payment would be done by placing the ring on a Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal.

Is this even possible ? Is a specific kind of chip needed ? What all is needed ?

My guess is that it could work in the following way

  1. Sending the payment card data to the VTS (Visa Token Service) endpoint
  2. VTS returns the token as an encrypted string ?
  3. the token can then be uploaded, for example via the phone, to the NFC chip.
  4. The NFC Chip can then be used for payment by placing it on the POT terminal.

But I'm afraid this sounds too simple and there will be many factors involved, such as verification of payment over a certain amount, for which authentication is needed, for example via Google Pay, or bank apps, etc.

I'm new to this so a more detailed explanation would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much for your time, I appreciate it very much.

Best regards,

Jirka Martinec
