VIsa CyberSource - 3D Secure support

Hello,

Please kindly clarify how 3D secure works for CyberSource when I use it through the VISA Developer.

For example I register a Merchant and then customer with 3DS support makes a transaction. Assuming that Acquirer and Issuer both support 3DS - who will show customer a special screen asking for sms-password? Is it a core functionality of the CyberSource?

Best Regards,

  Andrey Frolov

Re: VIsa CyberSource - 3D Secure support

Hi Andrey,

CyberSource does support 3D Secure from the API. According to the 3DS standard, the issuer is responsible for the customer authentication screen. Merchant is required to redirect to that screen to complete the process.

Hope this helps!

Re: VIsa CyberSource - 3D Secure support

Hello,

Thank you! A few more questions to specify.

For example I am a nerchant and want to create an application that will allow paying though the internet. I see 2 ways:

A. I register with bank as merchant and then send authorizations to the bank Payment Gateway solution.

B. I still need to register as a merchant but now bank supports CyberSource. And I use CyberSource payment gateway solution.

What is the difference for the Merchant?

What is the difference for the Bank Acquirer that uses own payment gateway or cybersource? What is the difference in interchange fees? What is the difference in supporting 3DS?

Re: VIsa CyberSource - 3D Secure support

Hi Andrey,

1 - What is the difference for the Merchant?

CyberSource helps merchants process payments in more than 190 countries, connect to more than 100 acquirers, and get funded in over 40 currencies. If the merchant has registered with the bank with a merchant account, it is very likely Cybersource supports their payments already. (https://www.cybersource.com/products/global_map/) Merchants should connect to CYBS so that they can use one connection to connect to many different acquirers and different payment methods and payment options, expand globally, use card-on-file and token solutions for payment security, fight payment fraud efficiently with CyberSource decision manager, receive consolidated reports, and use world-renowned secure & reliable payment infrastructure, among many others.

2- What is the difference for the Bank Acquirer that uses own payment gateway or cybersource? What is the difference in interchange fees? What is the difference in supporting 3DS?

interchange fee is charged by the banking network and discount fee is charged by acquirers (https://developer.visa.com/products/cybersource/thingstoknow), not by CyberSource. For merchants who process payments thru CyberSoource for the many benefits mentioned above, CyberSource charges a fixed per transaction fee, but not a percentage based on TPV.
