What do I need to set up my website to take payments

Good Day
I would like to start by saying that I live in the Bahamas and my application that am working on is for the Bahamas. I am not certain if the Visa API will work here. Please let me know. Furthermore I don’t know where to start inorder to use this to start taking payments. Please explain like am 5 😄
