What does "Independent Developer" mean?

Is it possible for a small team of 2-5 to build a new fintech mobile or web application using Visa Direct API? What about one developer who've worked in fintech company before? Will Visa assist in building a relationship with a licensed Visa acquirer? Is this what Independent Developer mean or is it more to do with contractors looking to work for fintech organizations to develop applications for them?

Re: What does "Independent Developer" mean?

Hi @fintechdev,

Independent developers are developers that work at a startup. Please review the Visa Direct documentation via this link. https://developer.visa.com/capabilities/visa_direct/docs

In particular, see the top few paragraphs that are shaded in yellow that discuss the requirements to use Visa Direct.

After having read the documentation, if you meet those requirements, then please click through the link in those paragraphs to the Visa Direct Program Implementation Questionnaire, fill it out, and submit to the email address listed on that form. Please let us know if you have other questions.

To learn more about Visa acquiring please navigate to Visa.com. https://usa.visa.com/run-your-business/accept-visa-payments.html

When contacting a Visa licensed acquirer, make sure to tell them you're looking for a Visa Direct acquirer. That's because not all Visa licensed acquirers are enabled to sponsor Visa Direct programs.

Thanks,

Diana H.
