This month our spotlight goes to @Nexus_Software! Nexus Software Systems joined the Visa Developer Community in August 2017 – that’s three years ago this month (Happy Anniversary 😀!).

Now, that is not the reason we are giving them the spotlight. Since joining, they have been part of dozens of topics and forum conversations – mainly providing support to others. Their posts include dev tips, code snippets, troubleshooting help, use-case advice, and the list goes on. However, the real magic lies behind their day to day - as a software development company of engineers, designers and developers whose mission is to help other companies succeed. Get to know the team in their Q&A and give them a kudo!

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your company, Nexus Software System. What is it all about? What are you solving for?

[Nexus Software]: Helping companies realize their potential is our mission. Software to us is a craft that we care deeply about. Producing code that is highly functional, efficient and correct. In terms of its implementation and its ability to be maintained.

Q: I love how you described “software as a craft” – I’m sure you’ve got a lot of learnings to share with developers about being successful in the industry. Based off you experience in building and developing software, any key learnings come to mind? What would you say are some important lessons you’ve learned that may help other developers?

[Nexus Software]: For developers to be successful, they should love what they do. This passion is what inspires you to learn as much as you possibly can. And there is a lot to learn. After 35 years of studying and practicing the craft of software development, I still wake up every day with an insatiable desire to learn more. This passion translates into real value for your clients, because they get the highest quality software and the benefit of your experience and dedication.

Q: What technologies are you using to build your solution?

[Nexus Software]: C++, high performance computing and persistent memory. Data analytics,  machine learning, computer vision and artificial intelligence as it applies to ecommerce and retail sales.

Q: Any major successes you would like to share?

[Nexus Software]: There have been so many successes. We have been developing software for more than 30 years. We take pride in our work which helps to ensure every project is successful. Successes that stand out include the many retail businesses that we have helped transition to ecommerce. Enabling them to not only survive but to thrive in this radically changed world.

Q: What are you currently working on?  Which Visa APIs does it leverage?

[Nexus Software]: As partners with many industry leaders, such as Visa, Intel and Microsoft, we are building integrated systems and applications that leverage the functionality provided by their APIs.  Visa Checkout is one the most used APIs.

Q: What brought you to the Visa Developer Center?

[Nexus Software]: We were introduced to the Visa Developer center from Authorize.net. Where we have helped many developers to implement payment processing functionality.

Q: How have you been handling COVID-19 pandemic’s impact to the workplace?

[Nexus Software]: The pandemic has not changed our workflow significantly. We have been working remotely for years, as it turns out to be the most productive way to work.

Q: What do you love most about coding?

[Nexus Software]: The freedom and ability to build your ideas into tangible functionality. That has the potential to transform the way you work and do business.

Q: Can you remember the first thing you built with code? What was it and how did that feel?

[Nexus Software]: I started programming in Assembly language. Making device drivers. As a company, one of the first applications we built was a check cashing application with biometric finger print reading capabilities. That was about 20 years ago, making it one of the first of its kind.

Q: What’s the most exciting thing about being a developer in the payments industry?

[Nexus Software]: The payment industry is expanding dramatically, with many businesses realizing the necessity of digital functionality and ecommerce. There are many new technology developments in the payment industry that improve the customer's experience and merchant's ability to better manage and grow their business.

Q: What is coming next for you?

[Nexus Software]: We are investing heavily in the development of data analytics systems and applications that are well integrated with Visa's platform. Because data analytics transforms data into insights that can be acted upon. Data analytics is the key to unlocking the most value you can extract from data across your organization. To create a productive, cost-effective analytics strategy that gets results, you need high performance software and a reliable, highly functional platform like the one provided by Visa, that's optimized to work with your system. With improved data processing capacity and the ability to store and retrieve large volumes of data at scale, the potential for true business innovation and competitive differentiation is possible.  Organizations that do this will not only be able to increase productivity, enable faster innovation, and decrease costs, but they will build the foundation for data-driven intelligence (ML/AI) that supports the intelligent enterprise.
